Dairy-free and Egg-Free Pear and Chocolate Custard Pie | Vegan

Barley flour pie crust with a creamy chocolate custard and pear filling made with no dairy and no eggs!

If you a looking for an easy yet super yummy vegan pie for this holiday season, well you have to try this recipe!

The crust is made with light oil, vegan flax eggs and barley flour!

The filling is a creamy chocolate custard with caramelised pears.

Everything is made with no dairy and no eggs, so suitable for vegans or people with intolerance.

Ingredients (make a 20 cm pie):

for the crust

  • 130 g barley flour
  • 150 g cake flour
  • 2 flax eggs (if not vegan you can also use normal eggs)
  • 80 ml light oil (extra virgin olive oil or any vegetable oil light in flavour)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100 g light brown sugar

for the filling

  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 250 ml almond milk
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 40 g rice flour or cake flour
  • 1 large pear + 2 tbsp sugar and 3 tbsp water

In a bowl of your electric mixer with the whisk attachment beat up oil, sugar and flax eggs. Add the dry ingredients

and mix everything together using the paddle attachment of a wooden spoon

Roll out dough into a circle and lay it in a pie pan

Peal and slice up 1 pear, place it in a skillet with sugar and water and cook on medium-high until it lightly caramelizes.

In a saucepan heat up dark chocolate, sugar and flour

stir constantly until a paste forms

Slowly pour in the milk and cook on low heat stirring until it turns into a smooth cream.

Pour the chocolate cream into the pie crust,

lay the pear on top and bake in pre-heated oven at 180C for 45 min.

Remove from the oven and let your pie cool down

Sprinkle the top with some powder sugar if you want, and serve!
