Many, many, many of you and many, many, many of my students often ask me how to: chop a onion, dice a carrot, mince garlic, butterfly chicken and other basics cooking skills. Thus I have decided to create a new category to post tutorials on how to get some of the basics necessary to run a successful kitchen.
Today we start with the evil of all young chef: onions!
They make you cry when you chop them,
they fall apart while you chop them
and it seems almost impossible to get nice and even pieces.
Well, there is a trick that I’m going to show you, which will make your life A LOT easier.
First thing first grab an onion and cut off the root ends
Peel off the skin and cut the onion in half
Holding knife parallel to cutting board, make 2 or 3 horizontal slices
then slice straight down to cutting board, almost but not quite to root end
Slice crosswise straight down to cutting board to create even-size pieces
Done!
Easy as pie 🙂
