Summer- Coffee- Creamy- Drink!

I am back!

After having been on business trip in Shenyang and then sick for over one week I am finally able to find some time to past a new recipe on expatcucina.

Weather in Shanghai has been everything but Summer. It has been raining for weeks, it is cold and humid and makes me depress. Specially because all I see on Facebook and Wechat are posts of my friends in Italy laying on sunny beaches and having fun…while I am here locked up in an office…

So to bring a bit of Summer flavor into my sad, no-summer-like, Shanghainese life I have decided to make myself this tasty summer drink!
This is sold everywhere in Italy and it is called “crema di caffe’ fredda” – cold coffee cream”. I LOVE it and there is no day that I dont order one when I am back home. Making it at home is a bit time consuming but totally worth it.

Here is the recipe!

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 250 ml heavy cream
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 strong espresso

 

Start off by making 2 strong espressos. I used my Illy tostatura scura

Add 2 tsps of sugar to the coffee and let it cool down completely, then put it in your fridge to chill

In your electric mixer beat up the heavy cream

and slowly pour in the cold coffee until it gets all foamy

Then transfer it into a plastic container and place it in your freezer for about 4 hours. Give it a stir every 30 min to avoid the formation of ice crystals. Then, after 4 house, transfer it into your electric mixer again, and beat it at high speed for 1  minutes, until it becomes nice and creamy

Transfer into small glasses and serves immediately
