I know it’s late to post a Christmas recipe but I my boyfriend got back from Germany right before NYE, so on Monday we had a little Christmas dinner at my house and exchanged presents.
For the occasion I made a fantastic smoked salmon risotto, lemon baked cod fish and truffle honey baby carrots. Then to give the dinner a bit of a Xmas atmosphere, I decided to make this Santa’s bread.
This is actually something super funny you could make next year with your kids. I am sure they would have a blast shaping bread like Santa’s head.
Ingredients (make one Santa):
- 1 batch of pizza dough (made from 1 cup of flour)
- 1 egg
- red food coloring
- 1 black olive
Divide the dough into 2 balls one of 900 gr and one of 450 gr. Roll the biggest piece into a drop shape
then cut the bottom half into strips (about 1 cm thick)
Take 2/3 of the small piece of dough and roll it out, then cut it into strips (1 cm thick) leaving at the top about 1 cm thick edge. Twist each strips on itself
Brush the bottom of the santa’s head with water and place it on top of it
Fold the top of Santa’s head on itself so that it looks like a hat. Use the remaining 1/3 of dough to make
2 flat strips, one to put as the edge of Santa’s hat
and one to put on top of the edge of it’s bear
Santa’s mustaches, by making 3 long strips, twisting them together in the center
than make 2 balls, one bigger for the tip of the hat and one smaller for Santa’s nose
Brush the whole Santa’s with a beaten egg and add 2 small pieces of a black olive as its eyes
then add a few drops of red food coloring into the remaining egg
and carefully brush it on top of it’s hat.
Bake at 180 C for about 30 min
Let it cool down completely before serving.
