Tomorrow is the big celebration day in the United States. Having spent 4 years of my life with an American and having now many American friends I can’t let the day pass without celebrating. Even only to enjoy the wonderful pies and bbq meat…
If you are looking for new patriotic recipes browse my July 4th category, you will find many, or just follow the recipe below if you feel like making these delightful flag cookies.
Happy Independence day America!
Ingredients:
for the cookies
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
For the icing
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- water
- red and blue food coloring
Prepare the cookie dough as explained in my shortbread cookie post. Then roll out the dough and cut out 3cm*2cm rectangular
Refrigerate for about 20-30 min
Meanwhile prepare the water frosting by combining the powdered sugar with a few tbsp of water, just enough to obtain the desired density.
Divide the icing into 2 bowls, leave one white and add blue food coloring to the other
and red to the last one. Put them into squeeze bottles
Bake the cookies at 180 for about 10 min, let them cool down completely
Then pipe even lines on each cookie alternating the white with the red icing
When you reach half of the cookie, pipe out a square in the top left using the blue icing
Then finish up with more lines on the left side
Let the icing dry completely before storing
Enjoy the cookie and the big day 🙂
