Most people think that as Shanghai is close to the coast of China (thus its name Shang = on Hai = Sea) it has amazing seafood…well, clearly all these people have never been to Shanghai.
The water that surrounds China is so highly polluted that I doubt there is anything alive down there. Therefore most of the fish come from far away and for obvious reasons, it’s not fresh.
For someone like me, who comes from the pristine coasts of Salento (Southern Italia) not being able to having sea fish is a torture so sometimes I just go to the fish market and grab whatever looks better.
Yesterday I found these nice cuttlefish. Since I doubt they hadn’t been frozen first I decided to give’ em a bit more flavor my making a light tomato sauce and dress some pasta.
It turned out pretty good!
Give this a try, with fresh fish if you can get your hands on some 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend! Valentine recipes coming up tomorrow
Ingredients (for 3 servings):
- 600 g cuttlefish
- 1 can tomatoes (400 g)
- 5 cherry tomatoes
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 onion
- 200 g spaghetti
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup white wine
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
- fresh chopped parsley
Wash and clean the cuttlefish
then cut it into pieces
Take 1/2 onion
and chop it up
take one clove garlic
and crash it
In a pot heat up 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
and saute’ the onion and garlic till soft
Add in the cuttlefish and stir well
Pour in 1/2 cup of white wine
turn on the heat and let it evaporate
meanwhile grab some cherry tomatoes (we are just going to use about 5)
wash’ em and cut each in 4 halves
Add them to the pot
Next up, grab a can of Italian tomatoes (Italian = good stuff, you just have to trust me here) and add them in the pot with the fish
Add 1 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of fresh ground black pepper
Next grab some freshly chopped parsley and add it in
Cover with a lid and let simmer for about 30 min or until fish is tender
Yummy! You could even eat it like that but…
HOLD ON!
Grab some spaghetti pasta and cook it according to package instructions
Serve your spaghetti in a plate
and ladle the cuttlefish sauce on top
Serve immediatelly
Delicious! Makes me homesick!
