Dual Color Swivel Cookies (girelle)

These are the best cookies I have prepared in a long time. They are just so good, soft but crispy and flavorful with their orange and cocoa aroma mixed together.

I used to eat them in Italy when I was in college. Right next to my uni there was this small baking place which sold all these different kind of tasty biscuits. My friend Arianna and I used to go there every afternoon after class before going to the library to study. So when I found the recipe on this cooking forum, a few days ago, I just couldn’t resist and yesterday night I made it. They are exactly like the one I used to have in Italy…I’m telling you, I must have eaten 18 of the suckers….Please try them. And please eat 18 of them so I won’t feel like such a glutton!

Ingredients (for about 30 cookies):

Part 1:

  • 250 g flour – 250克面粉
  • 120 g butter – 120克黄油
  • 2 egg yolks – 2蛋黄
  • 100 g sugar -100克白糖
  • 1 tbs vanilla extract -1 匙纯香草精
  • 1 orange zest – 1个橙子皮

Part 2:

  • 200 g flour – 200克面粉
  • 70 g cocoa powder – 70克可可粉
  • 100 g butter – 100克黄油
  • 2 egg yolks – 2个蛋黄
  • 80 g sugar – 80克白糖
  • 1 tbs vanilla extract -1 匙纯香草精

Part 3:

  • 1 egg – 1个鸡蛋

Part 1

In a bowl combine flour, egg yolks, sugar, butter (cut into pieces), the orange zest and the vanilla extract. 在碗里放面粉,蛋黄,白糖,黄油(切块),橙子皮和纯香草精

Mix all the ingredients together, then cover the dough with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for about 20 min.把所有的材科混合一起。把面团放在冰箱里。

Part 2

In a bowl combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, egg yolks, butter (cut into cubes) and the vanilla extract. 在碗里放面粉,可可粉,白糖,蛋黄,黄油(切块)和纯香草精

Mix all the ingredients together, then cover the dough with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for about 20 min.把所有的材科混合一起。把面团放在冰箱里。

Part 3

On a baking paper roll out the first dough into a rectangular shape 1 cm thick (2.54 inch).在烤锡纸均匀涂抹上面团

Beat the egg and put a light coding on the rectangle.

On another baking paper roll out the chocolate dough into a rectangle 1 cm thick (2.54 inch),在另外一张烤锡纸均匀涂抹上巧克力面团

Lay the 2 rectangles one on the other.在第一个面团上放第二个面团

Helping yourself with the baking paper, roll the dough up. 用 烤锡纸将面团卷起来。

Cut it into rolls 1 cm rolls (1 cm = 2.54 inch)把卷切片

Don’t eat it yet! Good things come to those who wait.

Bake at 200 C (392 f) for about 15 min。预先加热烤箱对200摄氏 度,烘烤大约 15分钟
