Japanese vegetable rolls

After the recipe for making Japanese sushi rice, let’s now see how to prepare some sushi rolls. The vegetable sushi rolls are the easiest therefore the best one to learn if we have never made Japanese sushi before.

Ingredients: 材料

  • 1/2 cup Japanese Sushi Rice – 1 /2杯寿司米饭
  • 1 cucumber – 1个黄瓜
  • Bamboo mat (makisu) – 竹席
  • 1 sheet of nori (dried seaweed) cut in half – 1片紫菜(干的海苔)减一半

Cut the cucumber into thin and long sticks 将黄瓜切成细长薯条的形状

Put a Nori sheet on top of bamboo mat. 将紫菜放在竹席上

Spread the sushi rice on top of the Nori sheets (get your hands wet so the rice wont stick on your fingers). Be gentle, don’t press the rice too hard. 在紫菜片上铺入寿司饭(湿润双手,以至不让米饭沾到手指)

Place the cucumber lengthwise on the rice 纵向地搽上黄瓜于米饭上

Roll up the bamboo mat pressing with your finger from the center towards the end of the roll. Press the bamboo mat firmly. 将竹席卷起,双手手指同时也要轻力按压住中间,卷到底即可。

First cut the roll in half 先把寿司卷切一半

Then further into bite-sized pieces. 再将其切成一口大小的小件即可

Serve with soy sauce and wasabi. 乘于酱油和芥末上菜即可

One serving (4 bite-sized pieces) provides:

  • Carbohydrates: 23.9 g
  • Protein: 2.6 g
