Valentine's cookies

Even if with a week delay, sorry but I was on vacation in Spain, here I am posting my Valentine recipe: the Valentine’s cookies! To decotate I’ve used sugar frosting but, if you want to make them lighter, just sprinkle on top some powdered sugar.

Ingredients (for about 28 cookies):

For the dough

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all the ingredients together.

Knead until it gets smooth and soft.Wrap the dough in plastic paper and put in fridge for about 30 min.

Roll the dough out (1/2 cm thick) and cut it using a cookie cutter (I used a heart shape)

Place the cookies on the oven tray (covered with baking sheet) and bake for 10 min at 180 C in preheated oven.

Now let’s prepare the frosting. Place all the ingredients in a bowl.

Mix until it gets fluffy ad smooth.

Cover each cookie with a layer of frosting.

One cookie without frosting provides:

  • Calories: 64 (from fat 32)
  • Fat: 3.5 g
  • Carbohydrates: 7.4 g
  • Protein: 0.8 g

With Frosting:

  • Calories: 106  (from fat 48)
  • Fat: 5.4 g
  • Carbohydrates: 13.8 g
  • Protein: 0.8 g
